Biography
Derek St Romaine is one of the UK's leading horticultural and gardening photographers. He trained as a graphic designer at Harrow School of Art and went on to work as an art director in book and magazine publishing for 16 Years. He then made the switch to the other side of the camera and spent several years photographing food before changing to horticultural photography which he has specialized in for the last 15 years.
His work is always in demand; he supplies all the major gardening magazines and book publishers in the UK and many in Europe and America.
In 1993 and 1996 he won the Garden Writers Guild awards for Plant Portrait and Garden Photography. In 1998 The Royal Horticultural Society awarded him a gold medal for an exhibition of Garden and Plant Photography. In 2001 he was voted Garden Photographer of the Year. In November 2003 at the annual Garden Writers Guild awards at the Savoy he again scooped the top award for photography.
Derek is a member of The Garden Writers Guild and has served on the GWG committee. He is also a member of the British Association of Picture Libraries and Agencies (BAPLA) and The Garden Writers Association of America.
